In 1958, Laplante Bus Line entered the school transportation business. Jean-Paul Laplante began with a van, driving students to school in Casselman. A year later, there was such an increase in student numbers that he purchased a school bus.
Over the years, Jean-Paul Laplante continued to expand by purchasing school buses every two or three years. His four sons, Yvon, Marc, Mario and Gilles started working for the company as they came of age. They took over the management of the company in 1993.
In 1965, Laplante Bus Line became Casselman Bus Line and in 1974, the company was incorporated under the name of 417 Bus Line Ltd.
In 1972, a line run began from Casselman to Ottawa with a 14-passenger van. Today, there are six coaches operating Monday to Friday from the villages of Finch/Crysler/St-Albert/Casselman/ St-Isidore & Limoges to Ottawa-Gatineau.
In 1990, 417 Bus Line Ltd added their first coach to the fleet. Today there are 23 coaches and mini-coaches.
In 2005, the 417 Bus Line Ltd family which now includes Autobus Lalonde Inc., Matte Bus Line, Larocque Bus Line and McHugh Bus Line, has a fleet of 140 vehicles, including school buses and coaches. Two coaches have been acquired from Autobus Dufresnes along with the rights for picking up passengers in Montreal as well as the same rights from Détour Nature.
In 2010, the owners of 417 Bus Line Ltd carried on their father's legacy by building a brand new state-of-the-art facility in Casselman Industrial Park. This new facility will enable Yvon, Marc, Mario, Gilles and their team to continue providing a service that is increasingly in demand.
In 2013, 417 Bus Line Ltd. acquired the rights for picking-up passengers in the Gatineau region. They also extended their family by acquiring the coaches and charter rights of ‘Ethier’ Transport Écolier du Coeur de la Gatineau Inc.
