PURPOSE
 
Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager is responsible for carrying out the responsibilities of the Accounting Department by supervising, monitoring and evaluating all day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts receivable and accounts payable management, and month-end financial statement preparation and analysis, as well as budgeting. The Accounting Manager will work closely Director, Financial Planning and Analysis to provide direction and leadership to the Branch Management Team in developing and managing budgets and financial objectives.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department and maintain all financial records, ensuring accurate and effective financial reporting by following proper accounting policies and internal controls
  • Supervise cash management activities
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable management
  • Maintain the capital asset and associated depreciation reporting
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and analysis
  • Review monthly operating reports for accuracy, completeness and major variances between actual and budget results
  • Prepare and finalize year-end financial statements
  • Assist in managing annual budget process with branch locations
  • Assign projects and direct staff to ensure accurate and effective reporting
  • Prepare forecasts for future business growth and general economic outlook
  • Recommend system and procedure improvements and initiate corrective actions
  • Lead the year-end audit process including coordinating with auditors, responding to audit requests, approving adjustments, and reconciling the audit numbers
  • Understand the structure of Canadian private companies. Ensure compliance with ASPE standards, internal financial controls, and tax reporting
  • Document accounting policies and procedures to ensure smooth running of the department
  • Responsible for training and development of the Finance Team
  • All other duties as assigned by the CFO

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or equivalent
  • CPA Canada designation preferred
  • Five years of finance experience with exposure to the areas of accounting, reporting, internal controls, budgeting, and strategic analysis
  • Strong mathematic skills, ability to analyze figures, and knowledge of accounting principles, as well as Excel expertise are essential attributes for this position
  • Experience with software implementations would be beneficial
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in both French and English is required
  • Experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership

 
REQUIREMENTS: This position may require some travel to company locations and occasional overnight stays.
 
Office Location: Casselman, Ontario
 
Salary range: $80,000 – $90,000 annually
